Virus Covid

COVID-19 is a disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). COVID-19  can cause respiratory system disorders, ranging from mild symptoms such as flu, to a lung infections, such as pneumonia. Common symptoms include fever 38°C, dry cough, and shortness of breath.  If there are people who, within 14 days prior to the appearance of these symptoms, have traveled to an infected country, or have cared for/close contact with a person with COVID-19, then that person will be subjected to further laboratory tests to confirm the diagnosis.

Someone can be infected from a patient Covid-19. This disease can spread through small droplets from the nose or mouth when coughing or sneezing. The droplet then fell on the surrounding object. Then if someone else touches the objects that have been contaminated with the droplet, then the person touches the eyes, nose or mouth (face triangle), then that person can be infected with Covid-19. Or it could be someone infected with Covid-19 when he accidentally breathed the droplet from the sufferer. This is why it's important for us to keep a distance of up to one meter from someone who is sick. Until now, experts still continue to investigate to determine the source of the virus, type of exposure, and the way of transmission. Keep monitoring accurate and official sources of information about the development of this disease.

As we know COVID-19 can spread through contact. This force us to do all activities without leaving the house. Therefore emerging technologies are needed to meet our needs during this pandemic. This is what makes technology that is estimated to be developed in the next few years to be implemented in just a few months. We have to welcome unfamiliar technologies to overcome the problems caused by COVID-19. The problems itself come from several different aspects. Some of them are from social, education and business.

From social aspect, COVID-19 caused people to distant their self with each other to avoid the spreading of the virus. If it continues like this, what will happen in the future? Can people have a social life without seeing each other? The answer is yes. But to make that happen, we are required to think ahead and innovate in developing technology.

Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality

Technology has developed quite rapidly so far. People can easily socialize with each other through social media. Of course, direct socialization and through social media is not the same.  It’s different to talk with others directly and through chat. Direct conversation involve a spontaneous response, while in chat we don’t need it. It will produce different result. People also can’t see each other’s gestures which is one of the important when communicating.

Waving hands, resting chin, crossing hands, knocking on the table etc. there are a lot of gestures that people usually do when communicating. They reflect how we feel when talking to other people. Current technology is good enough so that we can see other’s gestures by using video call. But of course we can’t see overall reaction with it. We don’t know what will happen in the future. But with the development of robotics today, it is not impossible if one day we can use robots to socialize. We can send robots to greet each other and having a conversation. Robots’ eyes will function as our eyes, and we can show our gestures through the robots using a stimulus device that is connected to the robots. It doesn’t even stop at social functions, we can also use the robots to do other thing such as shopping, taking out the trash, parking the car and many other things without leaving the house.

From education aspect, this pandemic makes the learning system become difficult because student can’t go to school. Learning cannot be done face-to-face anymore so it must be conducted remotely online. For now, this problem is solved by using e-learning system. Learning is done online by using application such us zoom, g-meet etc. It has similar system to video calls but can be done with multiple users at once.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that is quite in demand today. AR can be used for many things, one of them is a hologram. Holograms include in projection based AR which works by projecting artificial light onto a real surface. Holograms can be used in the field of education for the teaching-learning process. It can display the teacher’s projection while teaching, making it easier if they want to teach through movement/gestures that will be difficult to see in video call.

From business aspect, of course COVID-19 made a huge impact. With so many restrictions due to the pandemic, this can be used to start new business ideas to solve the crisis that is caused by COVID-19. For example are two ideas in the previous paragraph. Socializing robots and augmented reality learning. Both ideas can be developed for business interest. Of course there are many more innovations that can be used to overcome the crisis and providing business benefit at the same time.
